It's come to this:
A teacher accused of showing pupils a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad fears that he and his family are “all going to be killed”, his father said.
The incident during a religious studies lesson on Monday last week at Batley Grammar School, West Yorkshire, caused protests and the unnamed teacher, in his twenties, has been suspended. He has gone into hiding with his partner and young children after receiving threats and over concerns for his safety.
Speaking to Mail Online, the teacher’s father questioned why his son was being “victimised” and criticised the response of the school.
He drew comparisons with Samuel Paty, a teacher in France who was beheaded after he was accused of showing a cartoon of the Prophet from the French magazine Charlie Hebdo.
“My son keeps breaking down and crying and says that it’s all over for him,” the father said. “He is worried that he and his family are all going to be killed. He knows that he is not going to be able to return to work or live in Batley. It’s just going to be too dangerous for him and his family. Look what happened to the teacher in France who was killed for doing the same thing. Eventually they will get my son and he knows this.”
The father claimed that the school “has thrown my son under a bus” and said that the picture shown was part of the curriculum and had been approved by the school. He added: “Other teachers have done exactly the same thing so why is my son being victimised like this?”
One mother, who claimed that her daughter had been “locked in a sports hall for her safety” at one point during the protests, praised the teacher for his work welcoming new students. “He is a lovely man who has been very kind to the children,” she said.
Last week the mother of a pupil said that a Charlie Hebdo cartoon had been shown before at the school. “This was taught last year to my daughter by a different teacher,” she said. “I know it’s been taught in other years, in other lessons. Why single this teacher out?”
Running scared of the Islamists, who always manage to insert themselves into the front of these stories as spokesmen for the Muslim community with the same dreary regularity that all vaguely leftish protests end up being hijacked by the hard left.
