It must be enormously disheartening for South Korea's President Moon. His dearest wish has always been for some kind of rapprochement with the North, yet all they do is hurl insults at him. This time it's the Respected Comrade's not-quite-so-respected sister:
Kim Jong-un’s younger sister has attacked the leader of South Korea, describing him as a “parrot raised by America” over his criticism of Pyongyang’s ballistic missile launches.
Kim Yo-jong, 33, tipped as a successor to her brother, said of President Moon: “We can hardly repress astonishment at his shamelessness. Such illogical and brazen-faced behaviour of South Korea is exactly the same as the gangster-like logic of the US faulting the right of the DPRK [North Korea] to self-defence as a violation of the UN ‘resolutions’ and ‘threats’ to the international community,” she said in a statement published by the North’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
“He cannot feel sorry for being ‘praised’ as a parrot raised by America. This could be what is described as self-contradictory and being caught in one’s own trap.”
Moon had called North Korea’s actions “undesirable” after Pyongyang admitted that it had fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan.
Moon and Kim held a number of meetings in 2018 but relations between the two countries have soured again since the North has continued to conduct missile tests and intensified its rhetoric against South Korea, Japan and the United States.
She does come up with some baffling comments, Kim Yo-jong. A couple of weeks back she warned Biden not to cause a stink, adding a gnomic, "Whatever the South will do by following its master, it will not be easy that the warm spring days of three years that it strongly wants will return". And now, “He cannot feel sorry for being ‘praised’ as a parrot raised by America. This could be what is described as self-contradictory and being caught in one’s own trap.” Eh?
Maybe her phrases lose something in translation – or maybe she's just not much of an attack dog, and if she wasn't Kim Jong-un's sister, and of the sacred Mt Paektu bloodline, we could all happily ignore the stupid woman.
