  • Islam has turned into an anti-Western identity

European countries in general, and even in America, do not discriminate between religions. On the contrary, since the Enlightenment in 18th century Europe, equality between people has become a value that all Western countries try to uphold or realize. The second problem is in the discourse of the [Western] Muslims themselves, who say that they are oppressed and that there is a conspiracy against them. These Muslims live here, in Europe, and enjoy rights that they cannot enjoy in most of the Islamic countries. In addition, they are treated here, with some sort of equality. When you ask these Muslims if they accept, for example, churches being built in Islamic countries, they say: "No, it is haram.' At the same time, they say it is racism if we are forbidden from building mosques here, even though it is not forbidden in most European countries. […]

"They are given the freedom to curse [the West] every Friday in our mosques. When I visit a mosque, it always surprises me how an imam who lives here in Germany says every Friday: 'These are descendants of apes and pigs…Oh Allah, do this and that to them, make the earth quake under their feet…' We must remind him that we live on their land…Go easy on us with your supplications. It is considered within his freedom of speech to say this every Friday."

The commonest conspiracy theory in the Islamic world, of course, concerns the Jews, at whose behest a cornucopia of evils assails the poor Muslim.

See also the same Ibrahim Eissa pointing out that it's the West, and not the Arab world, that has been developing vaccines for COVID-19. The Islamic world, he says, complains that the West hates us, and wishes us harm, but then we sit back and wait for the West to send us the vaccine.

  • Missing lesbians

erosion of women’s rights in the face of the transgender movement….

“If you do not accept that everyone has a gender identity then you are automatically labelled transphobic which means you can no longer discuss women’s lives and what’s happening to lesbians,” said Ms Jackson. “We are increasingly discovering that lesbians are no longer welcome in the LGBTQ+ world, which is astonishing.”…

“Lesbians don’t have penises,” said Ms Jackson. “A lesbian is a biological woman who is attracted to another biological woman. That’s obvious. Or at least it was obvious until a few years ago.”

Ms Harris said: “We are both convinced, had we been growing up now, that we would have transitioned.”

Referring to her childhood as a tomboy, she added: “If I was in school today, I would be taken to one side and helped to come to terms with the fact that I was gender non-conforming. And how special would I feel? What child would turn down additional attention?”

Citing scientific studies which have found elevated rates of autism in transgender people, she said: “This is what drives us. We were recently talking to a teacher in a SEN [special educational needs] school who said there were 24 trans kids, one non binary, but no gays and lesbians.

“Is lesbianism going to become extinct? Yes. It's deeply uncool. At school, in university, it is so uncommon, it is the bottom of the heap. Becoming trans is now considered the brave option.”

  • Special criminals

a has officially had no cases, but nevertheless they develop these symptoms, so they need to be quarantined. That means, in effect, that they're locked away in camps and left there to rot.

Here's more from the Daily NK.

North Korea recently created a new camp for violators of COVID-19 quarantine rules in Sungho-ri, North Hwanghae Province, Daily NK has learned.

Previously, Daily NK reported that North Korean authorities are sending quarantine violators to political prison camps, charging them with violating Workers’ Party policy and treating them as “special criminals” guilty of political crimes.

In a phone conversation with Daily NK on Wednesday, a source in North Korea said with the number of quarantine violators “greatly increasing,” a new political prison camp was opened in Hwachon to accommodate them. According to the source, the new camp “isn’t big, and it is managed by the Ministry of Social Security.”

The Ministry of Social Security currently manages Camp 17 in Kaechon and Camp 18 in Pukchang, both of which are in South Pyongan Province.

The facility may be similar in size to those two camps or slightly smaller.

“[The authorities] opened the facility in one of the coal mines where there used to be a work site for the Hwachon Political Prison Camp,” said the source. “They created the new camp by walling off the mine and using the existing buildings.”

    Sounds lovely.

Nonetheless, serious human rights abuses are reportedly taking place in the camp, according to the source.

“Having opened a new prison, the authorities make an example of newly arrived prisoners by making them run in teams of seven after finishing work in the mine,” said the source. “The excuse is to make them reflect on their crimes before the Fatherland.

“If you pass out while running, they make you run more – 10 times the amount of time you were on the ground,” he continued, adding, “In early December, six of 53 new prisoners died a day after entering the camp [from cruel treatment].”

The source also told Daily NK that the authorities are not properly enforcing COVID-19 quarantine protocols in the camp. He noted that people are being sent to the camp for violating quarantine rules, but within the facility, “things are a mess.”

The report talks of "quarantine violators", but one can't help wondering whether this just refers to those who've broken the quarantine rules, or whether it's in fact North-Korea-speak for those who've actually developed Covid-like symptoms. Presumably, by their thinking, anyone who develops coronavirus symptoms must at some point have violated quarantine regulations, and so bears the guilt of crimes against the Fatherland for their condition.

  • Facilitating their young clients in the pursuit of identity projects

mes of treatment with puberty blockers, noting – in particular – at paragraphs 23 and 24 that it hadn’t been provided with the results of a research study started some nine years earlier at the Tavistock, which it had requested but been told was unavailable because one of its authors had yet to respond to issues raised in the peer review process. On the face of things, that was quite extraordinary: the study was centrally relevant to the matters discussed in the judicial review, and even if it was still going through the lengthy process of peer-review and hadn’t been finalised for publication, it undoubtedly existed in a near-final form which could have been provided to the court had the Tavistock chosen to provide it.  (It was finally published on the day the High Court’s judgment was handed down.)

But if the service was run by postmodernist-leaning clinicians who regarded “truth claims” with suspicion and saw their task not as relieving the suffering of patients with distressing pathologies, but instead as facilitating their young clients in the pursuit of identity projects, what use would they have for clinical evidence?

  • Brothers of apes and pigs

f with such success in popular Muslim discourse – he suggests that it is possible to say that the Jews are “brothers of apes and pigs,” because essentially, they became “like them".

There's some further musing – as I understand it – on the possibility that whereas the Jews were turned into apes, the early Christians were turned into pigs. For, um, rejecting Jesus. This is odd, given that Christians, by definition, do not reject Jesus. Presumably you'd need years of study in the finer points of Islamic theology to fully understand all this.

  • A fulcrum in British history

tions of the Right” that Professor Ferguson got his initial predictions wrong, but asserts that the experience in Manaus comes close to proving him right.

Where people did not change their behaviour it has not been pretty. In Manaus, Brazil, a city of 2.2 million people seems to have had at least 45 per cent infection, probably 70 per cent, and the results aren’t that far from the apocalypse of the March 16 paper. In April gravediggers had to work at night. Coffins ran out. Bodies were buried in trenches.

But aside from the details about gravediggers and bodies being buried in trenches that have been cited in many articles about Manaus, I can’t seem to make the maths work.

The March 16th paper that Whipple is referring to forecast that in a scenario without interventions, 81% of the UK population would become infected, and that 0.9% of them would die, ie 510,000 fatalities. That, famously, was the scenario that bounced the UK government into changing its approach.

But Manaus is a city of 2.2 million people. If we are to use it as proof that he was right, we should expect to have seen c 1.8m infections and c 16,000 deaths. As of today, the Brazilian health authority records 3,297 deaths in Manaus— a tragically high number but less than a quarter of the Ferguson scenario. Whipple suggests that between 45% and 70% of the city has been infected, but even if deaths have been miscounted and there were twice as many, it wouldn’t come close to the Ferguson projections.

Maybe I’ve missed something here, but how are these results ‘not far from the apocalypse of the March 16th paper’?

"Following the science" has become a mantra for supporting the likes of Ferguson. No need to massage the stats, though….

  • Merry Christmas Baby

    h?v=V8HQ-YY33ys”>Otis Redding

    Elvis

    BB King

    And the writer,  Charles Brown.

Charles Brown tells the story of the song this way: "Leon René had Exclusive Records. They needed a song; Bing Crosby had “White Christmas”. Lou Baxter, who was a songwriter and used to hang around Johnny Moore and the Blazers, said 'Charles, I want you to do one of my songs because I need money.' He had to have an operation on his throat, he had throat cancer. If we did one of his numbers they would give him a $500 advance. So I looked in the satchel, I took the satchel (of songs) home that night and I looked in there, I looked at all them things, and it didn’t impress me. I saw "Merry Christmas Blues", but the idea struck me. I said this would be a good idea, but it wasn't like what he had written. I wrote the title "Merry Christmas Baby", and I wrote the words, how I was going to sing it, and I mapped it out, played the piano, and I presented it to Johnny Moore. We didn't know it was going to be a great big hit, but I thought it was unique. Leon Rene said put the celeste on it. I had never played one. He said it's just like the piano, put it on the side of the piano. 'Cause they didn't have all these synthesizers. He said just play it (on the intro) like you play the piano then get back to the piano. Exclusive never paid copyrights. Hollywood Records took over, lawyers for creditors said artists would get their money, but it never happened. Don Pierce [Hollywood Records] never paid a nickel. Charles lost his letter. When Exclusive Records was sold, the artists/creditors got nothing. Leon Rene promised the artists the money would come. Never happened." And Johnny Moore did the deal with Lou Baxter and put his own name on it as well, apparently.

    Well, that's showbiz.
