With a young Levon Helm on drums.

Born and raised in Arkansas, Hawkins moved to Ontario in 1964, with the original band members, apart from Helm, leaving to be replaced by Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson – who went on to back Dylan when he went electric, hang out in Woodstock, and become The Band.

More early Hawk (looking and sounding like Johnny Burnette) – Mary Lou.

Once, after a Dylan concert at Maple Leaf Gardens, we went to Hawkins’ bar, The Nickeodeon which was just down the street. We thought that Dylan might come because of the connection through The Band. Dylan came but the real thrill was Ronnie Hawkins’ band. I don’t remember him singing but he had a girl singer who was, if I remember correctly, fantastic.
