Boy, wait until they find out that tradesmen routinely refer to “male” and “female” wire connections, plumbing parts, and other equipment. A complete tear-down of the engineering field will no doubt be demanded.

In the early days of laptops, it was common to call, plugs and outlets, male and female, respectively. Sometimes the parts didn’t work together, as when you had a printer with a female end and a computer also with a female end. In this case, you had to buy a little adapter called a gender changer.
