The silence of the unions

e Islamists. Local Labour MP Tracy Brabin was quick off the mark: “The upset and offence this has caused is understandable but it was also predictable. I am pleased that the school has recognised it was inappropriate and apologised for the offence caused." Yes, of course it was all the teacher's fault. She did manage a follow-up statement later which said that "no teacher should be facing intimidation or threats", apparently after pressure from the Labour leadership, but I doubt if anyone noticed.

Labour lost its "red wall" in the last election for a reason. It's not clear that they've learnt any lessons yet.

I’ve thought for a long time that the various teachers’ unions are among the most pernicious institutions in public life. Given the deleterious effect that they have on society I think that it is not too strong to use the word “evil” to describe them. They have behaved abominably throughout the covid pandemic and hundreds of thousands of children will have their life chances limited as a result. And, needless to say, over the Batley affair they have taken the side of the religious fanatics.
